Ellis Bullard

Caught up with this guy Ellis Bullard for a songwriter’s set at the Rook and he’s on my show this week. I promise you won’t forget this voice, and he’s got the guitar chops too It’s always such a treat for me to introduce to our listeners why Texas has made such a great name in music across our country and the world. Ellis has a true honky tonk vibe that you’ll recognize from some of our iconic treasures of the past. He comes from a family of entertainers. With a mom who sang out of Muscle Shoals , a Dad who played dancehalls & a great grandfather guitarist who shared the stage with Chet Atkins, he’s paved his own way as a songwriter with tunes like “ Honkey Tonk Ain’t Noise pollution” and “ chasing numbers” keeping his authentic rule of relevance to where we are in the music scene these days.

I’m convinced he’s gonna be a household name soon- certainly in Texas

I had the pleasure of interviewing Max Baca of the Grammy award winning conjunto group Los Texmaniacs this past week. And what a history lesson I got from Max about this special music and tradition. Fresh off the heels of the passing of one of Texas greats, Flaco Jimenez , Max talks about his time playing with Flaco and so many others who heavily influenced his journey. And for the local Texas fans Los Texmaniacs will be performing a unique FREE concert on Friday Sept 5th TUPPS Brewery in my hometown of Mckinney Texas Come experience this danceable repertoire at the heart of early conjunto / old-time polkas, as well as hints of rock, R&B, and country that makes up this tradition of Tejano music. Check this out… Juballeeyoung.com because he’s got a lot more to tell about than I can put on this post. He’s my guest this week and for what it’s worth— he’s a very kind soul and he made a decision to put his daughter above fame and I for one applaud him for that. Too many musicians leave their children to be orphans to the business of their music making. But that’s another story- and not this one. The son of two successful songwriters he’s paved his OWN way and I like itsome new original music for you to enjoy was just released .
